First Contact
At first we thought it was the endAt first we didn’t comprehend
But all refused to terminate
Endeavors to communicate
Although it wasn’t automatic
We persevered with mathematics
And all our planet’s brightest men
Came up with ways to talk to them
They said they came in peace with love
When they descended from above
And the masses came to see their cone
To know that we were not alone
The art their people brought to us
Inspiring and sumptuous
Started new movements and societies
And washed away anxieties
While politicians tried to make
Our military forces take
What resources we could get from them
Our military men condemned
And they refused to tolerate
Sanction or cooperate
And so they scored a victory
For the first time in our history
And ceased the war most ancillary
Vain and interplanetary
Our new galactic neighbors
Saw our double-sided sabers
They saw the best and the worst
They saw our knowledge and our thirst
And by some mortal providence
They had the utmost confidence
That we like they could work it out
And became what could without a doubt
Be called our enlightened and wise
Interstellar species allies
And on that fateful day of history
Removed the one great mystery
When we met our new alien friends
Who call themselves “homosapiens”
Brave pioneers who from birth
Had traveled on a ship from Earth
That through the vastness of space had hurled
Just to greet and liberate our world
