This Just In
The streets of Charlotte were full of angry, beautiful protesters outside the Democratic National Convention on Sunday. Many of the same folks who came out to support President Obama in the last election are now saying that they aren’t happy with the direction he’s taken the country.“We have an obligation to remind voters that Obama failed to fulfill his campaign promises in his first term. Why offer him a second?” Said 28-year-old Eli Rollins. He came to Charlotte to represent the Occupy Portland movement and to show his dissatisfaction with the agenda of the Obama presidency.
63-year-old Amy Weis, who was an Obama campaign worker in the last election, says she “couldn’t be more disappointed.” She has spent the morning asking fellow protestors to give her a single word or phrase that explains a policy or political promise that each participant feels that president Obama hasn’t come through on in the last four years. “Foreclosure prevention, raising taxes for the wealthy and closing Guantanamo Bay” are among the responses she’s received so far.
She intends to make a video of these clips and post it to YouTube later this week.
“I’m loosing faith in the system.” Remarks Amy, who believed so strongly in the election process that she volunteered full time to “make sure Obama made it to the oval office.”
“I feel like it doesn’t matter who I vote for, politicians are all the same. I’ve seen it all my life. Somehow, I thought Barrack Obama would be different.”
There are a variety of reasons that other protestors have come out today. A neon green sign with black lettering stands out among a sea of basic white signs with red, blue and black lettering. It reads “Obama’s an Alien” and the opposite side includes an amusing caricature of President Obama in his suit and tie, with antenna curling around his head in the shape of two enormous ears.
When asked for a comment, the sign holder simply stated “He’s an alien. They’re ALL aliens.”
Now there’s a theory this reporter can get behind.
