The Scent of Jasmine
Jacob felt lonely as he picked up his wallet to verify for a fourth time that he had no funds. He wanted to be able to go out and spend some quality time with with his favorite waitress, Jasmine. She always treated him nice and he always overtipped, which he would not be able to do this time since he had no money. He had thought briefly about just going in to have a glass of water, but quickly discarded the idea as ridiculous. As he thumbed through all the hidden compartents of his wallet a tattered piece of cardboard fluttered to the carpet. He picked it up and saw that it was his library card and that it was outdated. He found a recent bill and went down to the library to renew it and see if Katherine was there. At least that was an activity he could do that didn't cost anything.
